What may not be a secret is that I’m in law school. With that I have hundreds of pages of reading weekly with a preponderance of work attached. My secret is, however, that I read in the bathtub every night. Bubbles. Tea. Sometimes a shot of bourbon in my cup. Often there is a snack involved. And while there have been days that I’ve had to take work to the tub to catch up I never sleep as well as when I dig into a good book to clear my brain.

Sara Hammel’s book, Let Me Tell You a Secret, has been my savoir and go to read for multiple reasons.
For those of you who know Sara, she is the prolific author of The Landing and an advocate of those in need. She is also the author of many books published with a pen name. Publishing her memoir under her pen name was simply because Courtney Hargrove is more recognizable to her readers. If you need a good novel, go look up Courtney’s best selling books on Sara’s author’s page. I’m learning now, that they are all taken with a theme of her life and something she experienced.
Let Me Tell You a Secret, is a compilation of Sara’s stories as she traveled the world and interviewed celebrities, One thing about Sara, as a reporter, her writing is the strongest I’ve seen in a long time. She has an incredible voice and her stories will make you smile. I’m not a movie star groupie, probably the opposite, so you would think reading stories of the stars would not be for me. But they were fun and explained so much about the otherside of these public personalities. Also, the bands she interviewed, I found myself more than once searching the music on line.
The second reason I loved this book was because when I got wrapped into her novels, it would be midnight before I gave it up, adding hot water to my tub a few times through the read. Now, I try to get 8 hours of sleep to ensure my brain can absorb the legal information I’m learning. Therefore, the manner this book is written, I could read a chapter a night. Yes, sometimes I would go for two or three is I had time.

For all the aviators out there, and flight attendants alike, this is a perfect book to take on your trips. While commuting if you want a quick read before you sleep, a chapter is what you need. Waiting for the fueling truck, you can read a chapter. But if you have a life that doesn’t allow daily reading, you could read a few chapters and pick the book up in a week or two later and it wouldn’t matter. It’s simply great entertainment.
Sara’s incredible prose, sharing stories of a life lived well, of celebrities that might not have been as fortunate as we thought, will entertain.
This is my recommend read for the month. Also a perfect gift for those who love the stars and follow them. Enjoy!
