Spirit Bankruptcy

In skies once bright, where hopes took flight,
Spirit soared through day and night.
From bustling terminals, a world arrayed,
But shadows crept as dreams betrayed.

The pilots who flew with skill and grace,
Now face the ground, a somber place.
With every landing, the weight they bear,
Of futures uncertain, a haunting despair.

Flight attendants, with smiles so warm,
Served comfort and kindness, a soothing balm.
Yet now they gather in somber rows,
As whispered fears of tomorrow grows.

Mechanics toil, their hands stained with oil,
In hangars echoing with the heart’s turmoil.
Once proud of their craft and the planes they’d mend,
Now left questioning when this will end.

Families brace for the news to arrive,
As paychecks dwindle, they struggle to strive.
With dreams of stability fading from view,
They cling to each other, their bonds strong and true.

Together they rise, unbowed by the storm,
In the face of despair, a spirit is born.
Resilience shines, as they chart their new course,
For even in darkness, they’ll summon their force.

Though wings may be clipped, and times may be tough,
In unity’s strength, they will find they’re enough.
For hope is a journey that never quite ends,
And in every farewell, there’s a chance to make amends.

Having lived through bankruptcies I know the tumultuous feeling. One day you have a a work family, a paycheck, a job. The next day your world is turned upside down. To all Spirit employees: Your life is not over, it just will be different. Then it will be better. This, too, I know to be true. Hang in there long enough to see the rainbow.

  1. Very nice, I hope many of these folks are picked up and welcomed into the family of other companies.
It is heartwarming to see all the love and support towards these employees to let them know that things will workout.

    • Thank you Kelly, I remember my first bankruptcy. American airline employees put on their flight to get home, sat me in first class, brought me a bottle of wine wrapped in a napkin with messages from all. The one gift I wish I could find. It disappeared over the years, but the memory will always be with me. We’re all in the aviation family together.

  2. Thank you for the beautiful poem. It’s so comforting to read these kind words. It means a great deal to me.
